Carrier Relations Intern (Spring 2023)

Duties / Responsibilites

Position Summary:

The Domestic Carrier Relations Intern position fully supports and guides KCH Transportation contracted carriers to ensure their overall success. This team member will foster strong relationships with our local and national client account support teams to maintain clear and transparent communications and updates between our internal team members, clients, and carriers. In this capacity, you will maintain strong relationships with our carrier business partners and field and internal team members to provide insight and transparency to potential service failures and issues.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Primary daily point of contact for carrier partners within the United States
  • Assist in the procurement of short-term and tactical transportation capacity
  • Communicating Key Performance Indicators to carrier partners and leveraging contractual obligations and relationships to ensure compliance
  • Communicate daily sourcing needs to carriers while optimizing and maximizing contracted capacity
  • Attend selected carrier meetings including compiling and evaluating summaries of carrier performance
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities to reduce Total Cost of Ownership for the assigned region
  • Provide recommendations for supplier process improvements
  • Interaction with various supply chain departments to drive transportation initiatives
  • Provide assistance to the operations team and their carrier/project needs
  • On-board, train, and develop new carriers


  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Ability to manage multiple sources of information and make independent and timely decisions
